Janet has returned to her native South Africa after an international career in the apparel industry where she championed sustainable manufacturing practices and circularity. At Monument House she continues to seek the opportunities that will leave our earth a better place for future generations.
Monument House prides itself in combining luxury exclusivity with ecologically sound energy, water, and waste practices. Solar power heats our pool and jacuzzi and provides at least 85% of the energy in our hospitality suites. During load-shedding solar power ensures there is continuous power with no disruption to our guests during power outages. Our guests can partner in energy conservation by forgoing daily towel and bed linen changes and by switching off lights and climate control when not needed. All water and solid waste are routed back into nature via our water treatment fusions tanks. Bore hole water is used for garden irrigation along with our grey water. An environmentally-safe complex ionic solution is used for the purification of the swimming pool, instead of harmful chemicals. We compost all of our food waste and have replaced single use products with sustainable alternatives. Our estate only uses biodegradable detergents and toiletries. Guests are encouraged to separate their food waste for composting.
